Inside a dimly lit chamber of the Earth Court, Alarkin and Annakin stood before a great stone altar, its surface etched with runes. At the center of the altar lay a small crystalline shard, its amber hue shimmering with a power that seemed almost alive.

Varik approached the altar, his steps echoing in the chamber, while Lorna remained a few steps behind, her face a mask of concern. He could feel the weight of her gaze, the uncertainty, the fear, but also the hope.

"Skylord," Alarkin began, his voice deep and resonant, "to form a bond with the Earth Court, you must accept our geis. It is an unbreakable oath, a connection that goes deeper than mere words. It will bind you to us, to the earth, and the promises you make here today."

Varik swallowed hard, nodding. "I understand."

Annakin lifted the crystalline shard with reverence. "This is a Heartstone. It's the embodiment of our magic, our essence. By accepting this geis, a sliver of this stone will merge with your heart. Should you betray us, the sliver will pierce your heart and end you."

Varik hesitated for a moment, the gravity of the ritual pressing on him. Taking a deep breath, he spoke, " I am ready."

Lorna's hand rested on the small of his back, a silent gesture of support.

Annakin began to chant the ancient tongue of the Earth Court, a language from before the Common tongue came to be, and the Heartstone glowed brighter, an amber light enveloping the chamber. Varik felt a pull, an irresistible force drawing him closer to the stone.

As the chant crescendoed, Alarkin stepped forward, placing a hand over Varik's heart. The air crackled with energy, and Varik felt a sharp, piercing sensation. The shard resonated, sending a sliver of itself, no bigger than a grain of sand, yet immeasurably powerful, directly into Varik's heart.

Pain, sharp and immediate, coursed through him. It was as if his very soul was being branded. But as quickly as it began, the pain subsided. The glow faded, the chant ceased, and the chamber returned to its ambient quiet. Varik took a shuddering breath, feeling the geis settle within him.

Alarkin removed his hand, his eyes searching Varik's. "The geis is complete. You are now bound to the Earth Court, Skylord."

Varik, still trying to comprehend the depth of the connection, simply nodded.

The twin Lords of Earth looked upon him, their expressions solemn. "Remember the weight of this oath, Skylord," Annakin intoned. "For now, our fates are intertwined."

The geis was more intense than Varik had anticipated. The sensation of the Earth Court's magic lodging into his heart was invasive, and a constant, albeit faint, throb reminded him of the oath he had just accepted. It was binding in ways he hadn't fully realized.

As they left the ceremonial chamber, the dimly lit corridors of the Earth Court stretched out in an expanse of tunnels and halls. The shadows played tricks on the eyes, deepening Varik's feeling of unease. The walls felt like they were closing in, much like the responsibilities now weighing heavily on him.
